Meet Rob
Rob Lucero is a fifth generation Angeleno, with family relations and roots in nearly every neighborhood of the 34th Congressional District. His great-grandfathers helped build the L.A. River flood control project and the Pasadena Freeway during the New Deal era. Rob's grandfather Nick became the first Latino Executive Director of the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club in Lincoln Heights. Like the legendary late Congressman Edward Roybal, Rob’s family, the Luceros, have been in the Southwest since long before it became part of the United States.
Rob played and coached little league in Highland Park, he coaches youth sports in Eagle Rock today. Rob attended the local Northeast L.A. schools, proudly graduating from Eagle Rock High School in 1991. He graduated with honors from Long Beach State, after completing his lower division courses at East Los Angeles College. He has a B.A. in Global Politics and a Master’s in Public Administration from USC, where Rob serves as a mentor to USC graduate students. Rob married a beautiful and accomplished Highland Park girl, Dr. Renee Polanco Lucero, a leader in deaf education. They reside in Eagle Rock, where their children attend the neighborhood, city school. They have a cat and two dogs, with the newer addition, a pug, running the show, naturally.
-A Life in Political Organizing-
Mr. Lucero has been active in politics since the 1992 Presidential campaign. Rob was a field organizer and fundraiser in the national Democratic Party, working in more than 20 states throughout the country. In 2016, Rob founded the American System Group, a consultancy that leads projects serving to rejuvenate that which made America great in the first place: Abraham Lincoln’s "American System of Political Economy". Rob has studied global history and public policy since 1993, focusing on international relations, international economics, and national economic development. From the spring of 2018 through the summer of 2020, Rob produced and hosted “New Deal Radio”, the most listened to New Deal podcast at the time.
Rob recently served as a city commissioner for Culver City, has worked in California state government, and has been an advisor to elected tribal leaders. Rob has been a director on several successful local, state, tribal, and federal political campaigns.
Rob was a senior advisor to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on economic policy, co-writing proposals for Mr. Kennedy on major infrastructure investment. Rob authored candidate Kennedy's call for a New Bretton Woods Conference, posted on X/Twitter on August 15, 2024. Rob also served as the national chair of Viva Kennedy '24, the spearhead of Mr. Kennedy's decisive support from young, Latino, and other minority voters.
Rob has been a lifelong, independent Kennedy Democrat, even during the 8 months that he ran for Senate in the California Republican Party! Rob contends that both parties have been falling apart for most of the last 20 years, especially since 2015. He believes he can lead a change in Congress that will revive the better elements of the party of FDR, JFK, and RFK.
